Campervan Conversions

Back in 2018, we scratched around to find a few grand to buy an Mercedes Sprinter ex police riot van with the intention of converting it to a campervan that hubby and I and our two dogs could use as a base when we eventually bought a patch of land to call our own somewhere. The piece of land never happened, due to us spending most of our savings on simply existing through the lockdowns, but we did get to complete our beautiful van. In the Summer of 2020 we realised that the van had to go as all our capital was tied up in her and we needed the money.

We needed to start on a new plan for our future and we also needed a van that was a wee bit bigger. Throughout the lockdowns we have been so anxious that we could be homeless with very little notice as hubby’s work has been so sporadic and income has been very uncertain at times. We thought that if we had a bigger van we could, if push came to shove, live in it. It would mean leaving our garden, our chickens, llama and alpacas, but we would always have somewhere to live and even work. So, on my birthday last Summer, we purchased Daisy, a roomy Citroen Luton van.

I’ll catalogue the conversion in this blog. We’ve done various bits and bobs to her already but it’s been a long, cold and very wet winter and we’ve not progressed very far. We’ve made good use of some of the bits we’ve removed from the van, such as the metal strapping down framework on the insides of the cargo area walls and the segments of the dismantled roller shutter door. From them I’ve made supports for plant climbing frames and edges for raised beds! Who’d have thought? I do love being able to reuse and make do! More about that in my various gardening blogs.
